About EOIVC 2020 

The Elmar Oliveira International Violin Competition (EOIVC), in collaboration with the Lynn University Conservatory of Music, will hold its second competition, January 14-26, 2020 on Lynn’s campus in Boca Raton, FL.  Online submissions are currently being accepted. The Elmar Oliveira International Violin Competition is only the second competition of its kind solely dedicated to the violin that is based in the United States. The EOIVC is unique for the defining opportunities it offers to young violinists, ages 16-32, who are striving to establish distinguished careers.

Meet EOIVC 2020 

Chairman of the Jury 

David Cerone, Mus.D, served as President of The Cleveland Institute of Music from 1985 to 2008.  He served on the faculty of the Oberlin College-Conservatory of Music for nine years.  He founded the Cleveland Chamber Music Seminar in 1974, and in 1981, accepted the position of Chairman of the Violin Department at The Curtis Institute of Music. In 1985, with his wife,  Linda 

violinist Linda Sharon Cerone, he co-founded the ENCORE School for Strings in Hudson, Ohio.

EOIVC 2020 Applications Are Now Closed

We received more than 65 applications from individuals representing 18 countries from around the world. We will be contacting our finalists the week of December 2, 2019. 

Who is Eligible

EOIVC 2020 Candidates, who are no younger than 16 at time of submission and no older than 32 by the end of the competition (January 26, 2020), are selected through an intensive four-step process.

 

A maximum of 20 quarter finalists and up to three alternates will be selected from the online submissions.

Meet EOIVC 2020 Composer-in-Residence 

For important udates be sure to join our mailing list.

Internationally-acclaimed composer, Christopher Theofanidis, joins EOIVC 2020 as its Composer-in-Residence.  Mr. Theofanidis has been commissioned by the EOIVC to write a short piece for solo violin that will be included in the repertoire for the quarter finals.

 

Composer, Christopher Theofanidis has had performances by many leading 

orchestras from around the world, including the London Symphony, the New York Philharmonic, the Philadelphia Orchestra, the Atlanta Symphony, the Moscow Soloists, the National, Baltimore, St. Louis, and Detroit Symphonies, among many others.  He has also served as Composer of the Year for the Pittsburgh Symphony during their 2006-7 season, for which he wrote a violin concerto for Sarah Chang.

Help spread the word near and far with our EOIVC 2020 downloadable flyer. Print it out for students and colleagues. Post it on bulletin boards. Display it in your studio. Have it in waiting rooms. We encourage all violinists, ages 16-32, to apply today

Prizes 

  • First Prize, $30,000 USD (plus career benefits defined as artist management and public relations support as well as concert and community engagements; a new violin, bow and case)

  • Second Prize, $15,000 USD (plus violin)

  • Third Prize, $10,000 USD

  • Honorable Mention, $5,000 USD 

  • Community Engagement, $2,500 USD

  • Additional prizes may be awarded

Travel Stipends and Housing

All those who advance to the Quarter Final Round of the EOIVC will be offered (see complete rules for qualifications):

  • A travel stipend (up to $150 for domestic air/train travel and up to $300 for international air travel)

  • Housing (via an EOIVC Host Family)

  • Transportation voucher to be used with a pre-approved rideshare company
